Motorola plans to release phones with Microsoft Stinger software. So what the hell is happening? Microsoft has finally succeeded in getting one of the big guys to support its ailing costs for the last 2 years ;-)
Why did Motorola do this? Probly
a) It doesn't want Nokia to dominate the Mobile world. So in one way, tying up with Microsoft weakens the other world's fight against microsoft. ( When u cannot fight the rival, join them!!).
b) Going by the middle path (it still sells symbian based phones), it gives the vendor more flexibility to tackle different markets.
c) Seemingly it is making a operating system based on Linux and runs Java. So again the Linux/Java paradigm is dawning? ( another premise of mine - now companies are increasingly looking at linux and java as an alternative to windows. So has it come of age? What will microsoft do?)
Update: (sep 30th 2003)
Docomo selects symbian to be the OS for 3G phones.
